The game plan heading into Sunday’s game was to get physical with the Washington wideouts. The plan seemed to work to perfection, as Redskin WRs Santana Moss, Antwaan Randle El and Keenan McCardell totalled just four catches and 60 yards combined.
After the game, 3irty1 responded to the fact Green Bay was penalized four times for illegal contact:
“You know what they’re doing?” cornerback Al Harris said. “Their coaching staff before the game is warning the refs that these guys are physical, and the refs are watching us a little harder. You’re going to get those calls when you play bump-and-run coverage. You’ve got to take the good with the bad.”
Not only did Harris help shut down the Washington wideouts, he tied up Redskins QB Jason Campbell after a ‘Skins fumble, helping spring fellow corner Rod Woodson free for a 57-yard ramble into the end zone:
Cornerback Charles Woodson raced 57 yards to the end zone with a Santana Moss fumble to give Green Bay a 17-14 lead late in the third quarter. Defensive tackle Corey Williams forced the fumble and Woodson jumped over Moss to get the loose ball. Defensive end Aaron Kampman and cornerback Al Harris provided enough escort to keep Redskins quarterback Jason Campbell from making a tackle.
In the locker room, 3irty1 offered a ton of praise to the entire defensive unit:
“You can see the confidence in guys’ eyes,” cornerback Al Harris said of the defense. “Just look around, you can see the confidence. At one point (in the second half), I went back to the sideline (and said), ‘We’re going to win this one.’”
“We’re extremely confident right now,” Harris said. “It’s not a cocky confidence. We’re working hard, and we know what we’re supposed to do.”
Finally, Packers LB Nick Barnett summed things up on the day before Pro Bowl voting began:
“We’ve got a lot of players that could make that trip to the Pro Bowl,” the Packers’ middle linebacker said. “Al [Harris] is playing great, [Charles Woodson] is playing great, [Aaron] Kampman is playing great. I think I might be having one of the best years I’ve ever had. Teams that win, there’s always more than one guy that goes and we’ve got some great guys.”
